Parent/Child Conflict Mediation

At The Mediation Group, we understand that adolescence can bring new challenges into the home or the family. You and your child might disagree about boundaries, communication expectations, religious practice, or a new relationship one of you has entered into. You might also simply have discussions that could benefit from outside guidance, such as choosing a school or college, making athletic decisions, or making medical or healthcare decisions. You might be the parent of an adult child and have disagreements around managing boundaries with grandparents or financial/estate/healthcare planning.

Regardless of what you’re facing, our team is here to help you through this process every step of the way. The first step is a phone call. After that initial conversation, one of our highly experienced mediators will reach out to learn more about you and your unique situation and guide you through our process. Once both you and your child agree to mediation, we can then schedule the first session.

What to Expect During Parent Child Conflict Mediation?

Handling a conflict with your adolescent child at home can often be unproductive, leave issues unresolved, and worsen the tension between you. This doesn’t have to be the new normal in your home. Our team of highly experienced mediators can be a voice of unity and healing in co-creating a flexible, personalized resolution for you and your child in a supportive, civil, and non-judgmental environment.

Our mediation sessions are conducted by two of our mediators with experience related to parent-child mediation. The mediation process typically consists of 1-3 sessions, each of which lasts two hours. If you and your child agree to write up an agreement to help solidify the work you’ve done together during these sessions, our mediators can assist with this process.

How Much Does Family Mediation Cost?

To cover the cost of two experienced mediators, we charge $650 / hour for each session, with an optional drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding for $450 / hour.Plus, unlike the often-uncomfortable experience of handling a dispute with your child at home, you have the assurance that each mediation session will be warm, nurturing, and compassionate and handled in a civil, respectful environment.
